Mindset Nugget: Way of the Warrior
Carl Jung was a psychologist who believed that our personalities are made up of elements of a number of archetypes. These archetypes symbolise basic human drives, values and personalities. The concept of the archetypes can help us understand ourselves better and how we experience certain things throughout life. We can view them as characters that are within all of us and each of them has their own light and shadow sides.
We are going to look at the Warrior Archetype and see if we can either tap into or identify and recognise the light and shadow sides of them within ourselves:
In a nutshell:
The Warrior (The Brave Hero)
Personality: This is the one who fights, conquers challenges, and doesn’t back down! When you need to push through a tough workout, crush a deadline, or tackle fear, The Warrior steps in to get the job done.
Shadow side: Sometimes, the Warrior goes a bit overboard, great for crushing goals, but don’t forget to chill out or you’ll burn out!
Can you identify experiences in your life where you recognise this archetype was dominant? Or maybe you’d like to connect more to this archetype now. Think about how the Warrior acts and what kind of energy they possess. Here are some concepts about this archetype to consider:
A warrior fights for survival by protecting and shielding themselves
They are fighting to win
They fear showing their weaknesses
They don’t like to quit
They have the gift of discipline and courage
Their shadow side is that they can fight too much and get over tired
They may not know when it’s time to surrender (they can burn out - think type A personalities).
These are ways we can explore our mind and how we may want to shift our perception by connecting to these parts of our psyche that we may wish to draw strength from or maybe become less dominant in.
