Mindset Nugget: Reality is Negotiable

‘Reality is negotiable’ - I wished that I coined this phrase but I didn’t, it was by a guy called Tim Ferriss who’s an entrepreneur and author of ‘The 4 hour working week’.  Whilst travelling this week, I listened to a superb master class about the Art of Communication by Vinh Giang and he kicked off with Tim Ferriss’s phrase. Tim’s right, our reality IS indeed negotiable. However, we need to be wiling to do something different for a shift in our reality. There’s no easy way to put this but everything we want lives on the other side of discomfort. That includes taking risks and trying new things. However, putting additional pressure and forcing ourselves to do hard things CAN also be counterproductive.

What I’ve found most effective when doing new things is to retain a playful attitude and to stay curious. Just the word ‘HARD’ feels heavy, it can make us feel like hiding and procrastinating a few more years from whatever it is we’d like to accomplish. What if we can PLAY instead? This word feels so much lighter. What if hard is a myth and it’s only feels hard because we haven’t quite figured out how yet?
